I really really really love Dan Santat's illustrations. I may have to put him on the list with Jon Klassen as illustrators I'll always read. The little models of the characters to indicate an idea are really adorable and weird. I love that this is a book about fractions without actually mentioning fractions! And I love how very important this situation is to our protagonists. THERE MUST BE EQUAL COOKIES. The way everyone flips out when the hippo keeps snapping cookies in half is just delightful. ( )

A super cute picture book about four friends who must share three cookies equally. A fun story that teaches math AND sharing skills. ( )

OH! MAN! MATH! 4 friends must put their heads together to find how to divide the 3 cookies equally so they all get some. But, OH NO!! the elephant keeps breaking the cookies because of the nerves of dividing them wrong. They need to solve this one fast before all the cookies turn into crumbs. ( )

One of my favorite authors, Mo Williams of Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, and Dan Santat come together to write this humorous story on dividing a cookie evenly. As with any of Mo Williams characters, the members of the story are loud and vivacious. Santat really overdramatizes the characters facial expressions to go along with Williams character's personality. The illustrations are fresh and vibrant in color. A very adorable story that has a decent amount of math content. ( )

Four animal friends are faced with a big problem when they discover there are only three chocolate chip cookies for the four of them. They struggle to find a way to split the cookies evenly amongst them.

This is a funny book that young children are sure to enjoy. The characters are over the top in their exaggerations, but this is to comic perfection. Within all this humor are some quick mathematics lessons about counting and dividing equally.

As an Elephant and Piggie reader, the main story is sandwiched between an introduction and a conclusion by those two beloved characters talking about the story they're about to/just read. Savvy readers will also spot a cameo by the Pigeon. ( )
