This book is good because it demonstrates a love for reading through the popular characters Elephant and Piggie. It has some humor as well as the grass in the book grows. This is an early reader book good for 1st or 2nd. Useful to have on the shelf for students to read during independent time for growth in confidence. Readers can also see that reading can be fun, even Piggie and Elephant think so! ( )

This is a cute picture book that introduces unique characteristics of individual blades of grass as they grow, showing readers that everybody is different in their own way. I appreciate that the author wants their young readers to recognize these characteristics within themselves, finding their individual identities, being the goofiest, tallest, curviest, etc. Very adorable illustrations and tons of moments to laugh about, would definitely be worth giving to students/children for a lesson on diversity. Eight blades of grass are so excited to be growing and noticing their differences (tallest, pointiest, etc.).

This is a humorous book for beginning readers. The many exclamation points and large font convey a sense of excitement. Although watching grass grow is the proverbial boring thing to do, this will show kids that it can be fun with the right perspective.

Being book-ended by Elephant and Piggie helps give the book some 'name recognition.' Savvy readers will spy a cameo by the Pigeon as well. ( )

-Fabulous book for a story time read aloud-fun to be dramatic and act out
-Humorous discussion of growth and plant life-more than living things
-Quirky, energetic illustrations and text to match
-Colorful, cartoonish, & fun
-The sequencing of the story, repetition & speech bubbles make it easy to follow along and anticipate what comes next ( )

This book offers a fun way of showing children how growing up can be hard. At times it seems that everyone else has it figured out while you are left confused about who you are. This is the way that a young blade of grass feels as all the others around him become the -est at everything: curliest, tallest, pointiest, etc. When something comes along and changes it all they support one another and help each other gain a sense of who they are again, even with major change.
