From Josh Kirby's cover for DAW, you can infer that our two heros are at some point slaves of lizard-men, but you will fail to realize that one of them is a man-like pig and the other a man-like wolf, even though this is made pretty clear within the first few pages. Some things were just too different for DAW. In an interview online with Neal Barrett Jr., this book is identified as one of the first with his odd spin on things. He recalls it as being set in a version of the Dark Ages, but the setting is actually a wafer-thinly disguised take on the height of the Roman Empire. While there are some nice bits of humor, and many chapters end with cliffhangers, this is a serious adventure. The main character is not an ersatz Conan but a budding scientist, and there is as much thinking to balance the action. Bad things on a big scale happen because there's only so much a handful of heros can do. Recommended. ( ) ALDAIR IN ALBION By Neal Barrett Jr. While Neal Barrett is well known for works that verge on the surreal (e.g. Interstate Dreams) or the grimmest of grim futures (Through Darkest America), he can put together a rousing tale of swashbuckling adventure. http://fireandsword.blogspot.com/2007/09/aldair-in-albion-by-neal-barrett-jr.htm... ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
