"When Billy, a troubled young man, comes to private eye Cormoran Strike's office to ask for his help investigating a crime he thinks he witnessed as a child, Strike is left deeply unsettled. While Billy is obviously mentally distressed, and cannot remember many concrete details, there is something sincere about him and his story. But before Strike can question him further, Billy bolts from his office in a panic. Trying to get to the bottom of Billy's story, Strike and Robin Ellacott--once his assistant, now a partner in the agency--set off on a twisting trail that leads them through the backstreets of London, into a secretive inner sanctum within Parliament, and to a beautiful but sinister manor house deep in the countryside. And during this labyrinthine investigation, Strike's own life is far from straightforward: his newfound fame as a private eye means he can no longer operate behind the scenes as he once did. Plus, his relationship with his former assistant is more fraught than it ever has been--Robin is now invaluable to Strike in the business, but their personal relationship is much, much trickier than that."--Amazon.… (mere)

I enjoy this series quite a bit but this mystery got a little convoluted for me. (Maybe because I was reading the critical details right after running a marathon?) still, the big picture made sense to me and I still like reading about the personal side of Strike & Robin. There are a couple clues that I’m still not 100% sure I caught/understood.

I wouldn’t mind learning more about some of the other employees too. ( )

Good book, but nothing new. I don't plan to stay committed to a series where the characters and style are simply rehashed. ( )

First book in a long time where I stayed up wayyy past my bedtime to finish reading it. Multiple times. And this book had a spooky feel to it, which kept me tense and anxious, even when I was reading in the middle of public transit. The authors does a fantastic buildup of tension.

I love these characters and their dynamic. I love seeing the progression from Book 1. For as much as I love reading about the cases, my favorite parts of the book are glimpses into their personal lives. It makes for great drama.

Bummed that I'll have to wait a few more years for the next book to come out. If you enjoyed the previous 3 books, I'd DEFINITELY recommend this one. ( )
