This book is about an old lady who swallows several large and unexpected objects that create a parade float in the end.The book is a good tool to use for young readers learning about sequencing and chronological order. There is also rhyming in the book the the students recognize and repeat while the teacher is reading. This allows for the students to hear the rhythm of the text and how the words flow. ( )

Summary: In conjunction with the fall theme, this book can be paired with the fall season of school. This text helps students understand fall and Thanksgiving. There are lists of events that happen in this text, and one builds on each other. This can help students scaffold their learning of the season. The ending is unpredictable, so students’ attention will be held throughout the whole text.

Personal Response: I thoroughly enjoyed this test. It was fun to read aloud, and it appeared that the students who were listening were following along word for word. Students were excited about the various events that were happening, and it was comical.

Curriculum Connection: There are obviously many books in this series, and they can all be housed together in the library. If there are students who struggle with reading, or need a boost with finding a book they can connect with and like, this book and this series would be a good option. ( )
