4.9 Stars. I needed some new original Space horror and this seemed to tick all the boxes. I came across a description of this graphic novel online and it had as many bad reviews as it did good ones. This is fairly typical for the horror genre and it always makes me chuckle when half of the poor reviews start with "I don't really like horror, but my friend said...". And they decide to give the book one star anyway, because it was... horrific.

Nameless is certainly horrific. You can get the blurb on the back of the book or from some non-spoilery review. It has gore, violence, madness and it's unsettling on every page. Conspiracy abounds and the actions of the characters may or may not be futile. But it's not just that. It's brave and creative. There's (quite literal) cosmic horror here and for a change it's nothing to do with HP Lovecraft's creations or Even Horizon copies (though it's probably on the same shelf as the latter).

The story is non-linear, which you either enjoy or you don't. At the end, I wasn't even sure what had happened in some respects, which given the nature of the story, is perfect. ( )

Man, I have no idea how to rate this one.

One the one hand, it's scary! Deeply unsettling and disorienting (which was incredibly frustrating until I read the afterword), it certainly succeeds as a horror story.

But it's also really messy. The afterward by the artists really shed some light on why the timeline was so confusing, and made me appreciate it. But that information would've been way better in the beginning of the book, and the tone was all over the place. Overall, more editing was needed: there are lots of small things that are missed (for example, the myth of Xibalba is barely explained, even though it's significant), and it could have been tighter.

Generally a two, but it really did unsettle me so rounded up to three. ( )

Very typical, crazy idea, disjointed Morrison stuff. Probably could've used a closer 2nd read - certainly was interesting and the artwork pretty fantastically gory. ( )

Total mindfuck in a good way, a sci-fi horror where we’re losing the causality and the boundaries between reality and dreams. If you’ve seen Event Horizon, multiple it by ten and imagine to watch it under the influence of some strong stuff. I’m not saying I understood the story but it’s fascinating. ( )

I really like Grant Morrison but this book is mind-f*cked, the artwork is good and the gore in this book is similar to Crossed series.
But the plot is all over the place and I have no idea what's going on, lol.
