Adventure OK fantasy adventure that seems to be copying the Harry Potter style. This time it's with the Djinn legends of the Middle East (genies in a bottle, etc.) and Egyptian myths. Was kind of a slow read but still enjoyable. Others have seen some fat-shaming and somewhat racist parts to it, but I really did not notice it. The twins (John and Philippa) are not very well fleshed out as characters but Uncle Nimrod is an outsized fun type. Worthwhile for most fantasy lovers, 12 and up, I guess, but there are better stories out there. I like the author's adult level historical fiction with the one I've read. Children of the Lamp is a series of contemporary fantasy novels and tells the story of twins John and Philippa as they discover how to act in the world of djinn. The twins grow their powers and find their destiny through this adventure series. The story has a variety of themes such as family, adventure, and loyalty. A really good fantasy series set in New York about two twin children, John and Philippa, who discover they are djinn (not genie, apparently that term's offensive to djinn), and they go on adventures with their uncle, Nimrod; Nimrod's butler, Groanin (who has one arm); and Mr Rakshasas, a really old, agoraphobic djinn who stays in his lamp and talks in riddles and occasionally gives them advice. I like this series because the characters are likable and because I think the storylines are pretty interesting ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
No library descriptions found. |
