I was given a free copy of this small book at an Open Air Mission recently. When I first became interested in evangelism, I searched high and low for something practical to help me get started. There wasn't much out there, I even considered writing something myself based on my early experiences...

This book is very practical and helpful especially for those just starting out or those wanting to be reminded of the urgency of the work for every Christian. The author uses his own experiences to explain the paralysis of fear that comes over a person when they find themselves talking about faith or just prior to that conversation. I'm sure that all of us can relate to this!

The author then gives some simple advice to be followed when sharing including steering the conversations straight towards Jesus and later the cross. He encourages perseverance and finishes with a reminder that success in evangelism is all a work of the Holy Spirit in a person's heart so we must pray...

I can't quite give it five stars just because I felt that some of the sample conversations were a little unrealistic. In practice, there is a very big gap now between believers and non-believers and I think the author assumes that Joe Public will have certain knowledge/understand or be interested in certain concepts that they just don't understand/aren't interested in. The challenge now is finding ways to communicate the essential truths of the Gospel so that people can see the relevance and necessity, without compromising the message.

I enjoyed this book and recommend it for all believers. ( )

A short and encouraging book subtitled "evangelism that takes people to Jesus". It starts by reminding the reader the importance of evangelism but also the need for spirit led change as opposed to clever arguments and apologetics. The author suggests answering any question from a seeker by going immediately to what Jesus says on the subject so that it naturally follows on to speak about the cross. There are several helpful worked examples. He also suggests making a point of never being stumped by the same question twice - there is no shame in not knowing the answer first time, but that should prompt us to do some research for next time.
