Grandpa is celebrating little ones first birthday. He tells little one how great she is and addresses all the things she learned to do while growing up in her first year. He tells her about family and how much she means to him.

I enjoyed reading Grandpa’s Little One. I enjoyed the illustrations best of all. The illustrations are so amazing that it could be a wordless picture book. The illustrations don’t just include what the author includes in the verbiage, there’s also so much to see and enjoy in the background. For example, on page 4 the words describe the baby eating her birthday cake and smearing it on her face, but in the corner the dog is sneaking off with a slice of cake of his own. The illustrator created pictures to match the words but graciously provided a little more to enjoy. The colors are also very captivating with subtle and faded tones providing the image of a faded picture. For example, page 5 and 6 take place outside with multi toned green grass, the trees in the distance are blurred, and the dog’s fur has different tones of brown. The multi toned illustrations provide a more realistic image opposed to an imaginative setting.
The author also used a rhyming pattern to tell the story. The Rhymes made the story feel poetic, which made reading the story a lot more fun overall. For example, the final page reads “so good night, little sweet one, what a perfect day for you. One was fun It surely was but I can’t wait for two.” The rhyming pattern used throughout resembled separate poems that created one story. The big idea of the story is that moms and dads don’t just love a baby unconditionally, grandparents can too. The book is told from a grandfather’s point of view. All of the moments are special and cherished by grandpa, the same way a parent would. ( )

Grandpa's Little One is written from a grandfather to his granddaughter on her first birthday. He describes all the things he enjoys doing with her. It's very sentimental. I'm not sure it would appeal that much to children, but I imagine other grandparents like it. ( )

This is a story of a baby's first year through the eyes of the grandfather. The things people take for granted with a new born are brought anew through the eyes of grandpa.
