"The Magpie Lord has everything I could possibly want from a m/m romance." -Smart Bitches, Trashy Books, A- "The Magpie Lord is a witty, action-packed sexy-as-hell fantasy romance." -Tiffany Reisz, international bestselling and award-winning author of The Original Sinners series (Mira Books). "This is a fantastic series!" -RT Book Reviews on A Case of Possession (Top Pick!) "Great story, set in the Magpie universe, about an apprentice magician trying to save his master's legacy. Both Crispin and Ned are meticulously drawn characters." -Reviews by Jessewave on A Queer Trade It's amazing what people throw away... Crispin Tredarloe never meant to become a warlock. Freed from his treacherous master, he's learning how to use his magical powers the right way. But it's brutally hard work. Not everyone believes he's a reformed character, and the strain is putting unbearable pressure on his secret relationship with waste-man Ned Hall. Ned's sick of magic. Sick of the trouble it brings, sick of its dangerous grip on Crispin and the miserable look it puts in his eyes, and sick of being afraid that a gentleman magician won't want a street paper-seller forever-or even for much longer. But something is stirring among London's forgotten discards. An ancient evil is waking up and seeking its freedom. And when wild magic hits the rag-and-bottle shop where Ned lives, a panicked Crispin falls back onto bad habits. The embattled lovers must find a way to work together-or London could go up in flames. This story is set in the world of the Charm of Magpies series. Warning: Contains a warlock who needs to go straight (but isn't), a waste-man running out of patience, blood magic, bad-tempered justiciars, and a pen with a mind of its own.… (mere)

This is not a review, this is just my thoughts about the what'sgoingons:

The horror! =:o ...... I mean, the horror is not my thing :/

Poor Crispin seems to be trapped in the same pattern of a relationship with his tutors. Another kind and understanding master? The message is loud and clear and too predictable.

Crispin's mentor has died and his magical cryptography papers sold for waste leading him to Ned's paper business in a frantic attempt to keep the papers from causing havoc on an unsuspecting public. But, a little too late.

When we start off in Rag and Bone, it is months after the above events (See "A Queer Trade"). Crispin is trying to learn to use his magic in a legal and acceptable way with no great luck and Ned is supporting him the best he can. When Ned's neighbor dies under suspicious magical circumstances which the justiciars cannot seem to detect, it falls to Ned and Crispin to figure it all out.

These two characters are very likable and seem quite innocent in a lot of ways. I think that is partly what makes them endearing. I liked the story and getting to see a bit more of Stephen and the justiciars (See "The Magpie Lord" trilogy). A nice addition in this universe. ( )

Another amazing book in the Magpies' Universe. Crispin and Ned are great characters, both with their strengths and weakness, but they love each other SO much... Of course, neither is really willing to say so, because, first, they are in an unlawful relationship and happy endings aren't the norm; and second, because each of them thinks the other is way out of his league.

Add to that Crispin troubles with the justiciary and an ancient evil waking up in London and you'll have a pretty explosive situation.

What I love the most about this story is how hard these characters are fighting to do the right thing, no matter how ill-equipped they are when we think about the forces they are fighting. I simply couldn't fall more in love with Ned and Crispin.

The writing is, as always, brilliant. And the way the story keeps entwining with 'Flight of Magpies' and 'Jackdaw' is fabulous. Of course, this means you should have read at least those two books before going for this one but why wouldn't you? :P

As always with this author, and particularly with this Universe, this is a truly recommended book ( )

Ned the paper seller loves Crispin the graphomancer, and Crispin loves him back, but Crispin is having trouble mastering his powers and the other magicians are suspicious he’ll turn evil, as his first teacher did. When a series of mysterious deaths starts Ned on an investigation that puts him in danger, it’s not clear whether their relationship—or the two of them separately—can survive, but they’re better together than apart.
