This book is a companion to to THE DREAMTIME, one of thegreatest Australian publishing successes with over onemillion copies sold in Australia alone. The original conceptof the paintings was developed by an associationbetween Ainslie Roberts and Charles Mountford, well known for his anthropological work among theAboriginal peoples. They had made extensive toursthrough remote outback regions, and the resulting potentimagery bridged cultural gulfs, making Australians moreaware of the Aboriginal sense of sacredness in all things.THE DAWN OF TIME, is once more accompanied by mythsinterpreted by Mr Mountford. In this book, all the paintingsare reproduced in full colour, with black and white drawingswhich also illustrate the myths, and like its predecessor it is aunique contribution to Australian art and literature and agenuine record of Aboriginal mythology.… (mere)

This series by Mountford and Roberts are beautifully illustrated with gorgeous haunting paintings. I have the original editions and the Dreamtime stories come from all over Australia. ( )

The subtitle of the book is "Australian Aboriginal Myths in Paintings by Ainslie Roberts". The author, Charles Mountford, is an ethnologist who enlisted the help of artist Ainslie Roberts to illustrate the traditional stories of the native people of Australia. How close the author's interpretations are to the true meanings of the aborigines, i cannot say, but it is good that someone has taken the time to record this unique culture in a way that a non-aborigine can experience it.
