"Little Grunt and the Big Egg" is a tale about friendship. After the egg that Little Grunt finds for family breakfast cracks open and a dinosaur hatches, Little Grunt gets a new pet. Unfortunately, she grows and grows to where she could no longer fit in the home. They had to say goodbye to each other, and their hearts broke. Their friendship triumphs as the dinosaur comes back to save Little Grunts family. ( )

This is a great pre-historic based fairy tale. Little Grunt finds a large egg to bring home to his family. To his surprise, when he left the egg overnight, out popped a dinosaur. Grunt kept the dinosaur as a pet but there was a problem. He grew so large he could not fit in the house,k so his family made him get rid of him. Little Grunt missed George, the dinosaur, so much. All of a sudden, the volcano near by started to erupt and George came to save the Grunt family. Children will love this fairy tale with its happy ending of George and Little Grunt being reunited. ( )

This is a cute story of a little boy finding a dinosaur egg and having it as a pet. But his dinosaur grows too big and he has to release back into the wild. When a volcano near erupts and the family is trapped, the dinosaur comes back and saves them. It was written like they are caveman that could talk with words like "Ooga-ooga" and the names("Mama Grunt, Papa Grunt, Little Grunt, etc.). ( )

Little grunt and the big egg is a nice prehistorical fairytale written by Tomie dePaola. This story has all the dramatic and humorous scenes as most of the books that were written by dePaola. The grunts live in a cave and had people coming over for brunch on Sunday. They send little grunt to find some eggs to make for lunch only for him to discover a really large egg that ends up cracking and out comes a baby dinosaur. Little Grunt begs the Grunts to keep the dinosaur and reluctantly they agree. The dinosaur grows and grows and turns out to be more than what the family can handle so they make little Grunt get rid of him. After a volcano hits and the George saves them, the Grunts begin to like him again. This story was wonderfully illustrated with lots of details and wonderful color. I think the moral of this story would lean towards not making a promise you can’t keep. I would recommend for others to read to their classrooms because I think the children will enjoy the humor in it. Especially at the end where little Grunt says “I guess I’d better call George Georgina! ( )
