In my opinion, this is a great book. It contains many repetitions on each page which I believe will help children become comfortable when reading it. For example, each page of the book has a word describing America's land. "Wood land; Farm land; Wet land; Dry land." I also like this book because it shows the vast diversity that America contains not only through the prose, but also through the illustrations. The book depicts many different races which live in America, like African Americans, Native Americans, and Mexican Americans. This could be a great book for children because I believe that they will relate pictures and they will gain a greater appreciation for being an American citizen. ( )

This is another book that I would recommend for all teachers. I loved everything about this book. The main message of this story is to show that everyone comes from a different place but we all live together in America. One thing I really enjoyed about this book was the diversity. It really made sure to include every place that someone could possibly live from the woodlands to the city. This ensures that all students in your classroom will be represented in this book. I also thought the illustrations were very unique. They all ranged from sketches, to animated drawings, to cartoons. At the end of the story you learn that each illustration was done by a different illustrator from that region. Lastly, I loved the whole concept of the book. Each page were opposites of each other. For example one side was the "hot land" while the other side was a picture of the "cold land." This really helped reinforce that it doesn't matter where you come from we all live together. ( )

Summary: This book touches all cultures in every state. The pictures of the people gives you a glimpse of what state you are in,and the words, which are few also help you to put it altogether. I also like how each land shows different cultures and how they represent that land.
Personal reaction: I like this books. The pictures really stick out to me and I did not have to figure out what the author was to say and tell.
Extensions: I would use this book to teach my students about the different states, as well as different cultures.
