On a full-moon night in Alaska, a traditional native totem pole magically comes to life. Grizzly, Beaver, Frog, and Raven all stretch and scratch and voice their relief at being free at last. But then the first dawn light appears on the horizon, and the totems have to reassemble themselves in the proper order before morning. Who should be on top of whom? Deb Vanasse is an American writer of more than a dozen books, many of which are set in Alaska. Her children's books include six picture books and two young adult novels.

The characters include the animal members of the totem poll which are frog, beaver, eagle, grizzly bear, wolf, and raven. The plot is showing how each animal spends their time awake from the totem poll and then trying to get back before the sun came back up. The setting takes place in the forest, in which they all live.

There was a totem poll that was carved long ago and was left by its maker. One night the animals carved into the totem pole come alive and do what those animals normally do. Then they realize that the sun is about to come back up and they must get back in order. The struggle to get back in order, but one of them remembers the riddle that goes along with their order. Therefor they are able to make it back how they began.

This was by far my favorite book on my Librarything. I think it is a really cute book and has a cute story. The illustrations are probably my favorite part about it. I would recommend this book for a classroom to maybe teach some Alaskan heritage or learning problem solving skills. ( )
