I really enjoyed this factual account of two men walking to the South Pole pulling giant sledges behind them. The writing was excellent, really conveyed the sense of living on the edge of civilization, not knowing whether you would even survive or not. The photographs of the resulting frostbite were pretty gruesome too! ( ) Great first person tale of the first unsupported crossing of the Antarctic continent. Sir Rannulph Fiennes gives a balanced account of the physical and mental hardships of this two person expedition, and in doing so adds to our understanding of earlier explorers of the heroic age. Includes excellent appendixes with general Antarctic history, thoughts on leadership, and preliminary scientific findings. Fabulous for an antarctic fan, but should also be worth reading for anyone interested in the limits of human endurance. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
In November 1992 Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Dr Michael Stroud set out to achieve what no one had ever done: to walk and ski - unsupported - the 2700km across the Antarctic, a continent almost devoid of life, in temperatures of -45 degrees centigrade. No library descriptions found. |
