I listened to it on audio and I'm a huge fan of a time loop or going back in time. One of my favorite tropes. It just seemed to go on forever for some reason. And I kept getting the girl's names mixed up. I knew each of their stories, that made sense, but then I had to think each time the author said one of their names who we were talking about. Overall, it was a good book and had an overall good message of, even if you change things, nothing's ever going to be perfect. I did feel for one of the characters who went back 10 years to relive her mom dying again. Good god...as much as it's good to have more time with someone, to have to relive the decline and the death doesn't sound like my idea of fun. Overall, it was enjoyable and I'll probably remember this book for awhile. Maybe if it was truncated a bit, I would've given it four stars. ( ) This book ended up being an incredibly sweet way of looking at life and how the decisions we make affect how our lives turn out. I was really inspired by Jessie, actually, though she was probably the character I was least similar to. The decisions she made and the effort she went to in consciously choosing to love the people she loved were really heart-warming and I think I can learn from her. Subtly, the authors had mixed in quite a few lessons about the various forms of success one can find. There were points about parenting and points about love that were really poignant The three girls had very dissimilar lives which made the story really interesting. I loved seeing how they supported each other in the different situations and how they wavered between which of their loves they had enjoyed more. There were a lot of fun aspects also. One of the characters had been a bestselling author but then had serious writer's block, and any writer can relate to her pain. They took a few trips that were just nice additions and gave me a real sense for their lives. I had tears in my eyes at the ending and I really loved the overall theme this had of how life isn't always about perfection and there's no exact way to make things be the way one might want them to be, but nonetheless, we can find happiness. This book came at a time in my life where I really needed a read like this. Despite my personal feelings, I nonetheless recommend it for anyone looking for something warming and uplifting. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. “Sometimes you have to fight like hell for something, even when you doubt you deserve it.” ― Liz Fenton, The Year We Turned Forty Imagine if you had a chance to go back in time and change things a bit..or alot. You had the chance to alter certain choices that you made at the time, certain decisions. But that would also mean anything that happens after that, would change as well. Your whole life would change. Do you do it? That was the premise in this delightful book about a group of women who get just that choice. What they choose to do and what choices they regret are the story. And what a story it is! It manages to be both fun and sweet as well as introspective and serious..all at the same time. I don't honestly know ANYONE in life who has no regrets about SOMETHING..and it is usually more than one thing. The power of this book is taking it one step further..with a bit of magical realism. What if one COULD go back and change destiny? What would happen? I usually do not like books involving time travel but this story really is not about the time travel itself. It's about human choices. And how we feel about our lives. I found this book poignant, tender and at times funny while also being quite thought provoking. This is an excellent choice. This was an interesting premise that is fun to consider for one's own life. It was well-written and held my interest. I did become tired of Gabriela's obsession with becoming pregnant - to the point she was willing to give up everything that was going for her for that chance. She wasn't even considering what her life would be like with or without a child and the consequences garnered during this time. I was a little concerned about the ending, but after reading the epilogue really liked how it was handled. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
