I really like the concept behind Numenera (the world in which the story is set) which is basically a riff on the Arthur C. Clarke maxim that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." Set billions of years in the future, the technological artefacts left behind by 9 extinct civilisations are completely inscrutable to humans but capable of great power.

This short story is a teaser for Numenera, the table-top game world created by Monte Cook. The story is just too short to really deliver. Can't wait to get my hands on the game, though! ( )

Not bad. Only read it to get an idea of the setting really. Was entertaining enough. I'll read a few more that have been published as a small collection. ( )

Dire, even by the standards of RPG fiction. Although the story concept wasn't bad, the execution was unbelievable and the editing poor. I'm sorry, but the spell-checker errors were bad enough - a plaintiff look anyone? (And it's not even a courtroom drama...) Oh, and I think some form of realism needs to be injected regarding how long a person can endure with no food or water - and be able to win fights against the odds. In terms of science fantasy RPGs, the Empire of the Petal Throne novels are far superior.
