"This well-researched book is a biography of the life--and disappearance--of Amelia Earhart, the pioneering aviator who was the first woman to fly solo over the Atlantic in 1928. But did Amelia's plane really crash and sink in 1937, or was her fate entirely different"--

This book was a mess. But I do think that if it had been cut down to simply the history and story of Amelia's flight and life up to the moment she disappeared it could have been a much better book in my opinion. Those were my favorite parts and I thought in that way it was a good summary of that accepted by most Earhart history.

But then came the theories about Earhart that aren't that she crashed and died. And that's where the book took a not so great turn for me. Could Jameson and all be right? It's possible, but things like the fact that he keeps saying that all these 'other' theories (that he doesn't agree with) have no proof, but his has does drives me a little insane, since from what Iread, he has almost no proof other than eyewitnesses and a ton and a half of guesses and other logic leaps (some of which were totally right angles) and supposition for his proof.

Perhaps I'm a trusting idiot, but until I have more than eyewitness testimony and a ton of questions prsented to me (eyewitness testimony is the worst kind in most cases), this book did nothing for me.

It was technically well written, but I could never get into it because I was rolling my eyes too much.

Sometimes there just isn't an answer, there isn't a reason. Things sometimes just happen. Our brains don't always like that answer. But sometimes it's life.

I received this galley through Netgalley on behalf of Rowan & Littlefield/Taylor Trade Publishing. ( )
