The tall grass prairie had almost vanioshed from North America when Pauline Drobney and her team stepped in. Over quite a few years, they reversed the dame that humans had done and successfully recreated the prairie. Dr. Diane Debinski studies butterflies and birds. In particular, she worked with the rare Regal butterflies, figuring out a way to bring them back. The book includes a glosssary, further reading, websites, photographs, and maps. Although the book is well written and interesting, I found it a bit disappointing, because it appears to be directed at a much less informed audience than myself. It is rather simplified, but I do have to give it some credit as it introduced me to Prairie City, IA, which I have now had the pleasure to have visited. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse

This book gives details and ways that people are trying to save the prairies while giving a history of the prairies as well. Specifically, Pauline Drobney tries daily to preserve and reserve the damage previously done to the tallgrass. Drobney is dedicated and stops at nothing to do her job. This book explains the prairie very well and provides a glossary as well as further resources children and teachers can use to do more research on the beloved prairies. ( )
