Stormfront af Jim Butcher (plutoempress, lookitisheef, DovSherman)
plutoempress: similar style, though i (and this is my opinion) find john taylor funnier than harry dresden.
lookitisheef: Jim Butcher and Simon R. Green both have created great supernatural male-lead detective series. I think they provide a nice balance to the girls-kick-butt series out there...don't get me wrong, I love the work of Kim Harrison and Laurell K. Hamilton (to name a couple), but it's nice to see that authors can create plausible male leads in the supernatural fiction world, too.… (mere)

Unshapely Things af Mark Del Franco (amberwitch, MyriadBooks)
amberwitch: Another urban fantasy P.I. noir series. Different kind of setting - Boston instead of London, and less cartoonish, more Tolkien inspired characters.

Sandman Slim af Richard Kadrey (MyriadBooks)
  5. 10
Sweet Silver Blues af Glen Cook (MyriadBooks)

The Man Who Folded Himself af David Gerrold (Michaenite)

Street Magic af Caitlin Kittredge (amberwitch)
  8. 00
The Man Who Crossed Worlds af Chris Strange (Kaczencja)
  9. 00
The Devil You Know af Mike Carey (amberwitch)
amberwitch: More complex plots, less cartoonish characters. Very nice descriptions of a London where necromancers are in demand as more and more undead lingers.

Dead Streets af Tim Waggoner (Anonym bruger)

The Nightside series is an incredibly formulaic detective series....with the best world building and side characters you could hope to come across. That is my review for every book in the series. By and large you get the same structure in all 12 books. But what makes you feverishly reach for the next book is for the incredibly rich and evocative world and desperately hoping that one of the dozen characters you've fallen in love with will be in the next book.

Shotgun Suzie AKA Suzie Shooter AKA "Oh Christ, it's her, Run!", Count Video master of the 1s and 0s, Jessica Sorrow, Tommy Oblivion the existential detective specializing in cases that may or may not have existed, Razor Eddie Punk God of the Straight Razor. The characters Green populates the world with are worth reading the series alone.

A fun fantasy horror book that reads like a hardboiled detective novel. John Taylor is a finder and he finds things and he finds people. He's from the Nightside, a bizarre alternate reality that exists somewhere in London, full of neon and sex and drugs and demons and aliens and talking horses. You get the picture. A dangerous place.

Fast paced and fun but definitely on the dark side. And I didn't see THAT ending coming! ( )

Nothing earth-shattering, but fun and entertaining to read. ( )

Enter the Nightside, a place hidden deep inside London where the wild things are. A sin city where strange people and not people live. A place where time and space warp on their own volition and there is always night.
John Taylor, a private detective gets a case to find a missing girl that was lost in the nightside. But the case, John and everything else in the nightside are not what they appear to be.

The book was fun to read but I felt there was something missing. The character development was not very good and the author throws in too many ideas on a book of this size. I hope the next one improves on this part. ( )

A good dramatic scene helps to keep the flies off.

"Every private eye has to have a smart-mouthed secretary who knows a thing or two. I think it's in the rule book."
Never get personally involved with a client. It’s written in large capital letters on page one of How to Be a Private Detective. Right next to Get as much cash as you can up front, just in case the cheque bounces, and Don’t go looking for the Maltese Falcon because it’ll all end in tears.
