Fiction. Literature. Romance. Christian Fiction. HTML:

Kelly Kennedy thought her life was finally on track. Engaged to the man of her dreams and with a baby on the way, she reassures her five-year-old daughter, Bree, that the father she picked for Christmas still loves her.
Unfortunately, war veteran Tyler Manning has been away most of the year. Recovering from PTSD isn't easy. Rather than worry Kelly, Tyler spends his time traveling to Afghanistan to work at a children's charity he founded.
Kelly decides to distract Bree with promises of a pet for Christmas. When Tyler is taken hostage by terrorists, she finds it hard to convince Bree that they will truly be a family in time for Christmas.
A Pet for Christmas is a sequel to A Father for Christmas. While it can be read as a standalone, you'll get more of the relationship aspect between Kelly, Tyler, and Bree by reading A Father for Christmas first.

I love this series! This is the second book of three. In the first we met Kelly and her daughter Bree. Bree asks Santa for a father and we are introduced to Tyler, a veteran with deep issues. In this book Tyler has gone to Afghanistan. Kelly is pregnant and Bree has decided to ask Santa for a dog. That is the easy and brief description. There is way more going on in this heart wrenching story but I would rather let you discover it on your own. I love Bree. She is adorable and has an unshakable belief that everything will be fine. As with real life, the deepest believers are small children. We could learn something there. I like Tyler but Kelly I haven't ever been a fan of. I know too many people like her. The characters are realistic. You may or may not like them but will probably recognize them. In my opinion, they make a good couple. They can balance each other and each has something to learn from the other.

I would recommend this book to romance readers who want a deeply intelligent story to go with the romance. This book,in my opinion, is a clean read. It does deal with mature issues. In my opinion Rachelle Ayala is not an author who shies away from contemporary issues. Instead she researches them and then puts them on display in a very real way.

A Pet for Christmas (For Christmas #2) by Rachelle Ayala
The holidays should be a time of family togetherness and joy.  For Kelly and Tyler, it's anything but.  A Pet for Christmas takes up where A Father for Christmas ended.  Kelly, Bree and Tyler are on the verge of becoming a family, until circumstances throw a monkey wrench in their plans.  It will take a Christmas miracle, a leap of faith and love's unending strength to guide this almost family to their happily ever after.  Ms. Ayala is an emotional writer.  She seeks out the heart and speaks directly to the vulnerability that makes us human.  Getting to read her wise words is always a pleasureable experience, but what I enjoy most is when the characters come alive.  Elizabeth Klett adds to that realism with animated vocal range.  Getting to experience the two together is a treasure not to be missed. It will come as no surprise to anyone familiar with my blog that I love Rachel Ayala's books. This one had me holding my breath and praying a lot! Tyler went back to Afghanistan leaving Kelly, Bree and their unborn son in the US. He gets in a load of really hot water----Meanwhile 5 year old Bree has told Santa what she really wants for Christmas and Santa tells her never to tell anyone else!! You will totally understand when you do find out what it is! I found myself with tears running down my face at the ending-very happy and hopeful tears. Rachelle Ayala has done it again!! These two short novels are a must read!!

And one final last word--G-d Bless ALL the veterans from all the wars-they are truly heroes. ( )
