Wine Folly: The Essential Guide to Wine by Madeline Puckette and Justin Hammack. This delightful books describes the red and white wines we all enjoy by describing the profile, the dominant flavors, origin and where the grapes are grown, the styles and sweeetness levels. The guide to learning to taste wine and the basic characteristics of wine are very helpful. The Wine Regions of the world are described, clearly and concisely. Keep it at your bedside and on top of your wine refrigerator.

I will admit I am a beginner at wine tasting and touring wineries. Last fall my wife and I drove to several different wineries in the north Willamette Valley of Oregon. We sat at the wineries sampling wines and talking with local seller about the wines. Some persons were very informed. Others not so. At one winery, the gentleman admitted he was a beginner himself and pulls out a paperback titled, Wine Folly. Said this was his gold mine to appreciating wines and providing a decent experience to visitors. We ultimately acquired this book thru Amazon. A wealth of simply presented information about most wines. We keep the book with our home wine display and cross check it trying out new wines. It's beginner level with plenty of graphical displays. Check out the preview on Amazon. ( )

An attractive resource for newbies looking to better understand and appreciate wine as well as for oenophiles who wish to review or pick up new wines at a glance. Covers not just the different wines but also the different types of glasses, decanters, food pairings and overview of predominant wine regions around the world. Definitely worth a look among the wine tomes one could peruse. ( )

Nicely designed and illustrated for easy access to a broad overview of the subject and the ability to drill down into specifics of varieties and regions of the world. Interesting! ( )
