A.W. Tozer's Follow-up to The Knowledge of the Holy We were created in the image of God, and to understand who we are, we need to understand who God is. His very character and nature are reflected through us. Unless we fully grasp who we are, we'll never become all God wants us to be.Delighting in God is the message Tozer intended to be the follow-up to The Knowledge of the Holy. He demonstrates how the attributes of God, those things God has revealed about himself, are a way to understand the Christian life of worship and service. We are here to serve and adore him, but we can only fulfill that role by acknowledging who he is, which is the essence of the Christian life and the source of all our fulfillment, joy, and comfort.… (mere)

Powerful! There's a lot to like from Tozer. A classic conservative preacher with a heart to know God in order to serve Him and humanity. Tozer writes about a love for God that doesn't shy away from Biblical study, but also doesn't let that knowledge go to waste. The main question of the book is, "Do we delight in God?" Does the thought of God bring a joyous smile to your face, or only remind you of an obligation? ( )

Beautifully written! An exceptional inspirational guide for a spiritual Journey! Tozer's Pursuit of God changed my life when I first read it. He placed a challenge before us to never settle for the easy but to want the most from our relationship with God. He wants us to reconsider what is truly important in life. He placed a challenge before us to reconsider who we belong to, which is Jesus and not the world and the religious systems around us. ( )

‘Delighting in God’ is rightly called a follow-up to ‘The Knowledge of the Holy,’ A.W. Tozer being honest with himself and with his audience, you can feel his passion about what he’s saying and his resolution in trying to offer something to his generation. It is a newly published book based on the sermons A.W. Tozer preached. I found many powerful insights that I want to remember about the importance of our perception of God, His character and nature, and how knowledge of things stirs up with a passion to follow Him. I found many quotes that are awe-inspiring, encouraging and convincing.

The book is about our perception of God, a faulty or a lofty one. According to Tozer, our perception of God is the one thing that defines everything in our life and this book is a journey about how we may have a wrong perception, but also how it can be restored to impact our lives. A correct perception of the greatness and goodness of God changes how we worship God and how we live our life. By restoring a proper reverence and awe for God, we come to know God more intimately.

This book is a call to the church, especially to the American church, to return to its first love. Tozer asserts that today's church has slipped into a Christianity that is mediocre and lacks the passion of the saints of old. Tozer is concerned with the church's worship. Today's worship, implied by Tozer, is similar to entertainment and a means to whip up an emotional experience. He loves the old hymns that celebrate the deep truths of the Christian walk. Each chapter ends with a hymn that depicts the subject.

The core of this book is knowing God and by knowing God, we are known by him. Immensely challenging! It is a must read for all Christians! Highly recommended! ( )

A great, but difficult read. Difficult because AW Tozer walks you through challenging experience. One, if you allow yourself, that will quicken thoughts of despair, anguish and brokenness. However, for anyone who has taken this journey, there is hope also quickened in you as the Lord ministers to your soul, takes any broken parts and renews you, forming you into someone more like him. I highly recommend this book for all Christians. ( )

My, oh my! Get this book. I am a HUGE A.W. Tozer fan. He was the first theologian I read when I was a fairly young believer. I remember reading The Knowledge of the Holy in the music room of the Memorial Union Ballroom on the Oregon State University campus in 1981 and being absolutely blown away! This book is a follow-up to that book, but it was only recently published.

It comes so perfectly timed as our Celebration of Discipline chapter this week was on Worship. I did not have an "I WILL" statement from our reading, but I knew God would reveal that to me. I had downloaded this free book on to my iPhone (Christian audio gives away a free book every month. If you want to download this one, you can download the app and search for it or go to their website at www.christianaudio.com. This book is only available for May 2016, but if you are reading this after that, there will be another one available on the website.), and I had a long car journey. So I listened and marveled at God's perfect timing.

He talks about passion for God, and how our perception of God can be shaped. The outflow of that is worship and much more. Perception is reality, but I really believe our perception of Him is based more on the church's anemic representation of Him, rather than who He really is. That, coupled with our perception of Him that is based more on our parents, makes for not seeing God as He really is. Therefore, we do not delight in Him. This book is a call to truly seeing Him for who He is: fantasy transformed to reality.

So good. I am in the middle of the book, but I wanted to post this before I finished so others could take advantage of the free book for the next few days. I may add more to this book when I finish! ( )
