I liked this cute middle school age book about a robot, which survives a shipwreck and is activated on an island with no human inhabitants. Instead, Roz makes friends with the animals, and adopt a young orphaned gosling (Brightbill), becoming his mother. This book is really about friendship, love and community as a series of events make things interesting for all. Peter Brown's illustrations were fun, but his basic robot shape was a bit too human (for an adult anyway.) ( )

Roz the robot is born from a wooden box, that was unceremoniously lost at sea from a cargo ship, onto an island full of plants and animals. Using her artificial intelligence "she" learns to act, communicate, make friends, become a parent and survive in the environment many times with comedic outcomes. This could be a great book to work with children who may need guidance navigating new surroundings.

children's fiction (audiobook). I think I'd have enjoyed it more as a printed book, as the narrated pace was a bit slow for me (and there weren't really any "robot noises" to make up for it). ( )

The girls loved the wide variety of daring action words the author uses. I liked the theme of nature colliding with technology, resilience, learning new perspectives, learning from one another, learning by observing. It’s also a really fun story. Keeps you on the edge of your seat. ( )

(Review by Zoe, aged 6.) I think it's a really nice book because it involves lots of adventure and it's set in the bush. I loved it because a robot and a bird were the main characters and it's interesting to think that an electrical thing could be really good friends with a bird in the wild in the bush. ( )
