This book is another book that has amazing illustrations that is more like a comic book. It is told in first person, and gives the students an introduction to Dr. Martin Luther King's life and the changes he brought to the United States. These books always talk about the person as a child so every child can relate to the things that our real life heroes do as kids, and gives them excellent role models.

As a small child Martin Luther King Jr. learned about the unfair way African-Americans were treated first hand. Once he was older, he did everything in his power to change this. He inspired people with his powerful words. Even though he was angry about how he was treated, he never treated other with the same hatred and disrespect he was shown. We learn about "nonviolent resistance" and what it means. He speaks about how we should use love to change the world. The cartoon like art in this book makes it an easy to follow and fun read. It teaches an important lesson on equality and how our words really can make a difference. ( )

Even at a young age, Martin Luther King Jr. believed in getting back up after he had fallen. He loved books and powerful words. When he was six, he had a white best friend. When they entered high school, the white boy said that he could no longer be friends with Martin because his father said so. Martin was taught by his parents that he was not inferior because of the color of his skin and that he should always have love in his heart instead of hate. As he got older, Martin Luther King Jr. led peaceful and powerful protests. He was the youngest at the time to win the Nobel Peace Prize at 35 years old. He also faced adversity by being arrested. He became a force for Civil Rights and changed society significantly by fighting for equality, peace, and love. I enjoyed the way this book painted a picture of Martin Luther King Jr.'s inspiring journey. I was presented with inspiring facts about his life. Even though I was already familiar with Martin, I still learned new things about who he was. ( )

Martin experienced racism. Martin was the head of the bus boycott. People bombed his house. Martins peaceful protest eventually worked and changed the rules. Martin wrote a response from jail to the NewsPaper. ( )

This book is in a first-person point of view starting at Dr. King's early life. It exemplifies his love of reading as a child, and his love of playing. His friend, who was white, was separated from him in school and told him his dad did not want him to be friends with King. At a young age, his parents explained to him the separation of blacks and whites in America, and taught him to love instead of hate. Soon, the book opens up to King's want to speak out on the issue of separation. It goes into his adult life and all the changes he made in speaking out on what is right. ( )
