See the world of Fifty Shades of Grey anew through the eyes of Christian Grey. In Christian's own words, and through his thoughts, reflections, and dreams, E L James offers a fresh perspective on the love story that has enthralled millions of readers around the world. Christian Grey exercises control in all things; his world is neat, disciplined, and utterly empty--until the day that Anastasia Steele falls into his office, in a tangle of shapely limbs and tumbling brown hair. He tries to forget her, but instead is swept up in a storm of emotion he cannot comprehend and cannot resist. Unlike any woman he has known before, shy, unworldly Ana seems to see right through him--past the business prodigy and the penthouse lifestyle to Christian's cold, wounded heart. Will being with Ana dispel the horrors of his childhood that haunt Christian every night? Or will his dark sexual desires, his compulsion to control, and the self-loathing that fills his soul drive this girl away and destroy the fragile hope she offers him?… (mere)

I waited so long to read this book and it didn't disappoint. It was very eye-opening and refreshing to read Christian's point of view of what happened and how heel feels towards Ana. Although, I enjoy Ana's POV more, this book was very enjoyable to read and I hope I get to read the rest of the story in Christian's perspective as well. ( )

There is no earthly reason for me to read this, other than to get more of what's promised in this pretty awesome review.

***

Not much to add to this review above, but ELJ has used up her lifetime quota of the following words:
-sated
-beguiled/bewitched
-delectable
-envisaged
-replete

And finally, Christian Grey is one of the least self-aware characters I've ever read, particularly considering the lifetime of therapy he's allegedly gone through. If I start going down the rabbit hole of this book's shortcomings, though, this review will never be over! ( )

As frustratedly angry as I was by the time I got to the third book of the 50 Shades series, I was curious about reading GREY written from the POV of Christian Grey. I guess I was hoping to discover some redeeming quality reading the story from Grey's POV. And I do have some strong opinions about it. I read all kinds of books about all kinds of themes. Some of the books I have read are disturbing. I have no problem with disturbing. Some of my favorite authors write the most disturbing books that makes me wonder how they sleep at night. In reality, the 50 Shades series is about a disturbed man obsessed over a naive woman to the point where he stalks her under the premise of introducing her to a lifestyle of which is not mainstream. What saddens me most about this series is many of the devotees of the books are under the delusion this is a romantic love story. And really, it isn't. It is far from it. It isn't even about the 'lifestyle.' That part of it is almost laughable. That said, I will probably finish reading GREY. But for me, this is the last book I will probably read of the series. I hear the author is already planning on writing the rest of the series from the POV of Christian Grey. More power to her, I guess. She's been able to milk this pathetic attempt at romance into a several book series and a movie franchise to the tune of millions of dollars. That's the saddest part. Because there are many more worthy authors deserving of this success, fame, and fortune who will never get this opportunity. Ain't America grand? ( )

I decided I needed to write my long overdue FSOG review before starting this one. If you read that first, it'll make sense on my POV on the story.

This is the book I wanted all along. Christian's story. To be honest, his story is what I wanted the most to know about. How did the strong, goal focused individual view themselves as a monster? The story did start a bit slow and dry for me. Very similar to FSOG. However at the 25% mark, the story captivated me more and more. I couldn't stop. I was in his head and I really wanted to understand him. I was also relieved that he was just a perplexed by Ana's behavior as I was. The suspense portion of the later books are brought earlier. You see clues to what happens next.

Honestly, I think this novel could stand alone. You do not need to read FSOG. It's from a different POV. Same scene heard differently. If I read this first, I would be compelled to pick up FSOG to get Ana's POV. Again there is story here. It's not all about the steamy, naughty scenes. You get real deep into his thoughts and dreams. He's so nervous and unsure. This book has me hopeful at the end. Obviously, this later novel has more polish than the original self published version. I feel better flow in the story telling.

I am going to make a side recommendation. Get the audible version. Because chapter 6 is best read to you. ( )
