Orbiting Jupiter is about a young boy who has a troubling past, and interesting future. I rate this book 5 stars because the author does a great job with building suspense, and keeping the reader engaged and wanting to learn more. I like how the character isn't an average teenage boy, he is troublesome, yet determined. I think this book is good to show kids to go after what they want and anything is possible with persistence and determination. ( )

Heartbreaking YA fiction dealing with some very serious themes (teen pregnancy, juvenile detention, fostering, bullying). I thought I knew about half-way through how it was going to end, but I was a bit off. ( )

This is a very poignant novel. It tells the story of a teen father in the aftermath of his child's mother ́s death. Joseph, the father, has never met his daughter Jupiter. After getting released from Juvie, he is fostered by a family in Maine. This family already has a son of their own, Jack. At first, Jack and Joseph have trouble getting along but they soon figure out how to coexist. In school, Joseph is judged and bullied by not only his peers but also his teacher. Jack and Joseph's relationship grows until they are truly brothers. Together they go on a journey to find Jupiter so Joseph can finally meet his daughter. This is a very moving and impactful novel. It shows the grave consequences a single decision can have in the life of a young person. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a tear-jerking, inspirational and devastating novel. ( )

The two-time Newbery Honor winner Gary D. Schmidt delivers the shattering story of Joseph, a father at thirteen, who has never seen his daughter, Jupiter. After spending time in a juvenile facility, he's placed with a foster family on a farm in rural Maine. Here Joseph, damaged and withdrawn, meets twelve-year-old Jack, who narrates the account of the troubled, passionate teen who wants to find his baby at any cost. In this riveting novel, two boys discover the true meaning of family and the sacrifices it requires.

Joseph is your typical middle schooler who likes to get into trouble. He is in a relationship with a girl who is from a very affluent family. Joseph becomes a father at thirteen and ends up in juvie. From juvie, he gets sent to a farm in Maine to complete his time. This story follows Joseph on the journey to meet his daughter, Jupiter. ( )
