Hippos are the second-largest land animals after elephants, and it has the biggest mouth of any animal except for a whale! Hippo facts are placed around appropriately huge, full-page illustrations; for younger kids, the reader could read just the information in a larger font, and for older listeners, there is additional info in a smaller font. Back matter includes an index and "About Hippopotamuses" (they are included on the Endangered Species List as "vulnerable"). Easy to read, short book that is well illustrated and contains a lot of facts about hippos. Classroom: This book could be used in a hippo or a mammal unit. The text within the book various in size and color, so it could also be used in a concepts of print lesson, helping the students to identify certain concepts, such as vocabulary, does the color possibly indicate something important, emphasizing points with punctuation, etc... I liked this book very much because it shared amazing facts about hippos that I was not aware of. It also had an index at the end to share what each page had on it. The book had 27 pages therefore, it was not very long. The book went into great details about hippos. I would use this book with a cute activity following behind it. Will buy if I ever teach 1-2 grades. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse

What's the deadliest animal in Africa? It's not the lion or the crocodile--it's the hippopotamus! Hippos have razor-sharp tusks, weigh as much as fifty men, and can run twenty-five miles per hour! Follow these hefty hulks as they glide underwater, play tug-of-war, swat balls of dung at one another, and nuzzle their young in the mud. Just don't get too close--they could chomp you in two! I think it is awesome that a picture book taught me so much about hippos. Now I hope I never see one in person. I know I can't outrun them and they are very powerful. The bright pictures are filled with details that help spotlight the facts. This book will put a smile on your face, and you'll want to find out more about these massive animals!
My K-2 students loved this book! They were amazed by the facts and couldn't stop laughing at some of them. ( )
