Chartres Cathedral, of all the great medieval churches, has survived into the 21st century almost intact, not only architecturally but with its vast iconographic programme in 12th and 13th century stained glass and sculpture. Malcolm Miller's illuminating text is supported by Sonia Halliday and Laura Lushington's stunning photographs. This was a guide for actually visiting the cathedral. The history chapter was interesting for sitting in a chair and reading, but the rest will have to wait.

Strangely the title page of mine copy says: "The chapter 'Architecture' translated by Mr. Malcolm Miller from a text by Jean Villette." However, there is no chapter 'Architecture.' ( )

Miller wasn't there the day we went, but the catherdal was magnificent and our visit was moving...left the camera bag...very, very cold day--but I still see pictures of it in my mind and remember the first view from the train. It was just THERE

This book is a gem, not just because of the beautiful stained glass photos, but because the text carefully tells the story found in the various windows. ( )

Malcolm Miller has written multiple works with the main title Chartres Cathedral. This work is the 96-page book with no subtitle. Please do not combine it with shorter works by Miller whose titles also begin with "Chartres Cathedral" (even though the books feature the same photographers).
