"Red Rising thrilled readers and announced the presence of a talented new author. Golden Son changed the game and took the story of Darrow to the next level. Now comes the exhilarating conclusion to the Red Rising Trilogy: Morning Star. Darrow would have lived in peace, but his enemies brought him war. The Gold overlords demanded his obedience, hanged his wife, and enslaved his people. But Darrow is determined to fight back. Risking everything to transform himself and breach Gold society, Darrow has battled to survive the cutthroat rivalries that breed Society's mightiest warriors, climbed the ranks, and waited patiently to unleash the revolution that will tear the hierarchy apart from within. Finally, the time has come. But devotion to honor and hunger for vengeance run deep on both sides. Darrow and his comrades-in-arms face powerful enemies without scruple or mercy. Among them are some Darrow once considered friends. To win, Darrow will need to inspire those shackled in darkness to break their chains, unmake the world their cruel masters have built, and claim a destiny too long denied--and too glorious to surrender. Advance praise for Morning Star "Multilayered and seething with characters who exist in a shadow world between history and myth, much as in Frank Herbert's Dune. an ambitious and satisfying conclusion to a monumental saga."--Kirkus Reviews Praise for Pierce Brown and the Red Rising Trilogy Red Rising "[A] spectacular adventure. one heart-pounding ride. Pierce Brown's dizzyingly good debut novel evokes The Hunger Games, Lord of the Flies, and Ender's Game. [Red Rising] has everything it needs to become meteoric."--Entertainment Weekly "[A] top-notch debut novel. Red Rising ascends above a crowded dystopian field."--USA Today "Pierce Brown has done an astounding job at delivering a powerful piece of literature that will definitely make a mark in the minds of readers."--The Huffington Post Golden Son "Brown writes layered, flawed characters. but plot is his most breathtaking strength. Every action seems to flow into the next."--NPR "In a word, Golden Son is stunning. Among science fiction fans, it should be a shoo-in for book of the year."--Tor.com "The jaw-dropper of an ending will leave readers hungry for the conclusion to Brown's wholly original, completely thrilling saga."--Booklist (starred review)"-- "The conclusion of the Red Rising trilogy. A solid ending to the series ( )

A fitting end to a surprisingly solid (to me at least) end to a surprisingly good series.

Morning Star basically finishes everything that Golden Son set out to do. It starts out crazy and takes you on a wild roller coaster ride. Things blow up, people die (some more permanently than others), and ... revolution!

Review-wise, there is honestly not much new to say that hasn't already been said on the first two books. I still don't care overly much for Darrow. He's too good at some things and too lucky at others to feel real. Ragnar and Sevro are hilarious though. Jackal and Sevro are crazy (in different ways).

It's nice to get closure to a few of the conflicts that have been going on for three books now (Darrow/Mustang/Roque/Cassius), even if I really didn't agree with how the last of those was handled. So it goes. Still cathartic to get an ending.

Also: the epilogue seemed like an unnecessary twist. Perhaps setting up another series? Still, I don't think it earned it. It's not book break though. ( )

The thrill ride continues, with this trilogy have been expanded to a 5-book series. Picking up about a year after Golden Son ends, Darrow is imprisoned and being tortured when he is rescued, despite having been shown publicly executed through the worlds. Yet, somehow, the head Howler, Sevro, knew it was a lie. Darrow moves back hesitantly into his leadership role, continuously evolving his strategies and alliances. Lots of characters and houses to keep track of, even a number of characters getting killed, and I still don't get all of the various Knights and their roles. Like the predecessors, this story has many twists and turns, which really wild at the climatic conclusion. The first third of the book is way too slow though, and it could have been shortened by 50-66%. ( )

Satisfying end to what turned out to be a good trilogy. Lots of political intrigue and machinations that ends on a high note, even though it stays pretty dark until nearly the final chapter. Glad I pushed through the first book, in spite of the problems I had with it.

That said, I will not continue into the second trilogy. At least, not yet. I want to bask in the glow of these first three stories a little longer. ( )

The 3rd book in Browns Red Rising series doubles down on some of the grit that makes it different than other scifi books around while putting strategy in the forefront. The deceit and planning kept me on my toes -- even when guessing I knew what was going to happen I was constantly second guessing myself. A great ending to one of the best series I've read since The Hunger Games. ( )
