Includes the story of the martyred Messiah Jew, Jesus.
Recounts in detail the intermittent but eventually systematic introduction of graven images by Roman rulers into Jewish communities - igniting Zionism. [179, 185]
While scholarly and comprehensive with such a rich tale in a single volume, it does contain significant omissions. No explanation for how Jewish communities suddenly appeared in the Caucuses and Eastern Europe in the Middle Ages. No mention of the Khazars -- a warrior people of Turkish stock who were wedged between two major 8th century world powers: Charlemagne's Holy Roman Empire knights were advancing from the West, and Muslim armies were advancing from the Persian East. The Khazars chose to become Jews. {In "The Thirteenth Tribe", Arthur Koestler shows that the majority of world Jewry, descending from Ashkenazi Jews, are of Khazar descent.}
