I love the Teen Titans. My favorite run is the legendary years of Wolfman and Perez. It's in that run that we first meet Deathstroke, the Terminator. I describe him to people as Captain America if if he was a mercenary. He loves America but he loves money more. The character that I grew up with and than read when he had his own series is not in this book. This story is about someone trying to figure out who he is. The thing that made Deathstroke such a great antagonist is that he knows exactly who he is. There's no doubt or hesitations about why he does what he does. This Deathstroke spent too much time overthinking everything. The appeal of the old Deathstroke was that his confidence was earned. He could fight Superman if he had to and he believes he would win. He could toe to toe with Wonder Woman and beat her. Batman is even intimidated to fight him. The comic where Deathstroke says to Batman, "the difference between us is that I fight to kill. You fight just to fight, therefore I'll win because I'll do whatever it takes to win." That's the Deathstroke I remember this one needs more work in going into that direction.

I read this book through NetGalley. I thank them for this book. #NetGalley ( )

Now… what exactly happened here? I have no idea. Apparently the old Slade wasn’t good enough so they killed him off and resurrected him as a young hottie. Why? I can’t really say. Appealing to a sex crazed audience?

Anyway, moving on. I do like cameos from other villains/heroes, but the number of characters shoved in this comic was ridiculous! Let’s try to count them off, shall we? Batman, Harley Quinn, Lady Shiva, Bronze Tiger, Slade’s son Jericho, Slade’s daughter Rose, Slade’s father Odysseus, I Ching, several new characters, mention of Ra’s al Ghul, and appearances of the league of assassins. I’m sure I’ve left out more, and remember, this is only a 144 page comic! Though I do have to say Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad and Batman deserve a star of their own for their rolls in this comic. Can’t beat the Bat.

On the the plot. Plot, what plot? I can’t find it! Let’s make Slade’s daddy evil and give his son psychic powers. Oh, and Odysseus wants to feed off of Jericho’s powers! Why? Well, we’ll figure that out later. Let’s just let Slade go wild and crazy with all the thugs we throw at him.

Honestly, I couldn’t follow the “plot” very well at all. I’m pretty sure I got the idea of what Daniel was trying to do, but it wasn’t executed well at all. However, he did do a great job with the art; especially the fight against Batman (which I don’t think really had a purpose in the comic other than to see Slade fight Batman). So, if you’re expecting a great plot to follow, find another comic. If you’re looking for pretty pictures, this might work for you. ( )

Slade Wilson. He’s always been an interesting character to me. On the one hand he’s definitely a killer, but he also seems to have part of a heart, and he has a family as well. And this TPB actually revolved around that family.

There were lots of characters in the TPB as well. Some on Deathstroke’s side and some against him (not to mention the few that, well, who knows which side they’re on). He also meets up with his daughter Rose, (I’d love to see more of her character) and son Jericho.

Deathstrooke’s also changed during the TPB, changed a lot, and I’d love to see more explanation re: that part of the story in the future too.

Oh, and then there was the awesome Harley Quinn. I’m always a fan of Harley in any DC book, and so seeing her in this one was cool.

I got this advanced galley through Netgalley on behalf of DC Entertainment ( )
