When Angela Peterson was thirteen, her sickly mother died. Her father followed soon after. She and her older brother, Thomas, were left in charge of running the farm and caring for their three younger siblings, Louise, Derek, and Bertha. Now Louise is almost a teenager herself and is becoming defiant; Derek is growing up, becoming a young man and in need of guidance; and sweet Bertha needs a mother-figure even more than ever. Angela and Thomas feel desperate at times, but their love and faith in God will see them and their family through. The two of them even find time for love, and Angela learns important lessons before she realizes that the person she has been waiting for has been in front of her all the time.
