Most sixteen-year olds aren't worried about the fate of their immortal souls. May Krieg should be. Typically, honors student May's biggest problems have revolved around her super-hot arch-rival, Jack. But when a school project takes them ghost-hunting in a local cemetery, she discovers that an ominous force roams in the darkness around her. And it follows her home. It claws its way into her life, burning messages into her wall and imprinting them onto her body. Even worse, she can't tell if it's trying to possess her... or protect her. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Hot damn. Hot. Damn. I just finished this book about two minutes ago and I'm having trouble forming my thoughts into coherent sentences.

I'm not entirely sure what I expected going into Daughter of the Fallen, but what I got was completely different from anything I could have imagined. It was... engrossing. Wonderfully, terrifyingly engrossing.

I loved May as a protagonist. I loved watching her struggle with her power and fight to figure out what she actually wanted. I'm still having a bit of trouble deciding whether I hate Himshaza or kind of want him for myself (I'm having some Shadow and Bone flashbacks here). And then Jack... I kind of want him too? I honestly don't even know what I would do if I was in May's position and had to choose between the two of them. I'm the most indecisive person in the world.

There was action, there was drama, there was a really good amount of attractive shirtless men.

There were a few little grammatical errors I found while reading, and they kind of pulled me out of the story a bit (e.g. allude instead of elude) but they didn't happen too often.

Also, there was slightly too much orgasmic rushing in response to things and a few too many references to May's bowels for my liking. This book also reminded me why I hate text speak. I felt like an eighty-year-old grandmother having to decode texts from my grandchildren and not being able to understand what "cil" means and why children these days can't include vowels in their words.

That ending though... I'm not sure I'll make it to April for the next book.
