Indlæser... Spiers and Surenne's French and English pronouncing dictionary. Newly…af A. Spiers
Ingen Der er ingen diskussionstråde på Snak om denne bog. Spiers is extremely rich both in locutions and in proposed alternative translations. Take, for a random example, the verb déranger. Spiers proposes fifteen English verbs or phrases, eleven possible translations of the past participle dérangé, and fifteen possible translations for the pronominal verb, se déranger. Compare this to Larousse (1960) (an excellent bilingual dictionary), which proposes eleven possible translations of the verb, eleven of the past participle, and twelve for the pronominal verb. In addition, Spiers offers more detailed information about the syntax of the English verbs, and more abundant indications of restrictions of use (whether for things, persons, etc.). (Larousse does give more abundant sample sentences.) It's no wonder that this dictionary remained standard for decades. ( ![]() ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
