My least favorite by the author. The story was okay but nothing special.

There were several things that rubbed me the wrong way:

The main character's boss charges one client's expenses to another client by "burying" the expenses in the second client's bill. No one bats an eyelash at this immoral business practice.

One character supposedly has had a nasty temper his whole life, but in forty-six years of marriage, he "was never mad at his wife… she calmed him down." Never? Even people without "nasty" tempers get angry with their spouses…

The early-thirties main character wears "slacks" to the zoo with her four year old. Maybe this is a rich person thing, but I imagine most moms in my generation would be wearing jeans, a dress, or pants.

I couldn't figure out why one character was romantically interested in another, and this wasn't resolved even in the end… it seemed like a cheap ploy to justify the main character's existence.

If you're looking for a mystery on the fluffy side and don't want to think too much about what you're reading, this might be for you. ( )

Too much going on. Too much detail spent on the build up to have such a quick resolution. Like her last few books, it's almost like she's regurgitating the same formula over and over. Nowhere near the good stories from the 80a.

The Melody Lingers On is a story with a beginning middle and end. The characters are all believable. The story takes place in present day. One finds oneself hoping that the bad guy gets caught. It is a very fast read and entertaining. A solid four stars are awarded here for a good story. ( )
