"In a riveting debut novel that reads like Prep meets Gone Girl, a young woman is determined to create the perfect life--husband, home, and career--until a violent incident from her past threatens to unravel everything and expose her most shocking secret of all. Twenty-eight-year-old New Yorker Ani FaNelli seems to have it all: she's a rising star at The Women's Magazine, impossibly fit, perfectly groomed, and about to marry Luke Harrison, a handsome blueblood. But behind that veneer of perfection lies a vulnerability that Ani holds close and buries deep--a very violent and public trauma from her past that has left her constantly trying to reinvent herself. And only she knows how far she would go to keep her secrets safe. When a documentary producer invites Ani to tell her side of the chilling incident that took place when she was a teenager at the prestigious Bradley School, she hopes it will be an opportunity for public vindication. Armed with the trappings of success--expensive clothes, high-powered byline, a massive engagement ring--she is determined to silence the whispers of suspicion and blame from her past, and prove once and for all how far she's come since Bradley. She'll even let them film her lavish wedding on Nantucket, the final step in her transformation. But perfection doesn't come without cost. As the wedding and filming converge, Ani's meticulously crafted facade begins to buckle and crack--until an explosive revelation offers her a final chance at redemption, even as it rocks her picture-perfect world. Equal parts glitz and darkness, and with a singular voice and twisting plot, Luckiest Girl Alive reads like Sex & the City--if Carrie Bradshaw had a closet full of skeletons instead of shoes. In Ani FaNelli, Jessica Knoll has created a complex and vulnerable heroine who you'll be rooting for to the very last page"--"This riveting debut novel follows a young woman striving to create the perfect life-- husband, home, career-- until a violent incident from her past threatens to unravel everything and expose her most shocking secret of all"--… (mere)

Some Boys af Patty Blount (beckylynn)
beckylynn: Teen rape and not knowing how to deal with the social misunderstandings play huge parts in both of these books. They will leave you disgusted with the actions and inactions of both youth and adult alike.
  2. 00
Skarpe genstande af Gillian Flynn (beckylynn)
beckylynn: Enjoy that ending that you don't seem coming, but makes perfect sense? You'll love both of these authors.
  3. 00
The Slow Moon af Elizabeth Cox (BookshelfMonstrosity)
BookshelfMonstrosity: The ongoing psychological effects of violence, rape, and cruel accusations in the characters' pasts make these suspenseful novels similar, as do the nonlinear timelines and the compelling characters.

This was a difficult one to read and rate. Lots of hard topics in this book and the characters are not likeable so if you are looking for that, skip this book. I'm glad it ended the way it did (spoiler free zone here) but at the same time I wish we had gotten a peek at what happened next. I will say that the first couple of chapters were the worst because it was almost as if the MC was free associating and my anxiety spiked as a result. Oh, and the cover/title make this book sound YA. It is most definitely not. ( )

I never thought I'd find this: a book with a protagonist who I want to slap on the regular, but who I ended up rooting for in spite of that.

Tiffany tries so hard to fit in, to have the right friends, right fiance, right life, that she loses track of who she really is. This book is hard and heartbreaking, but ultimately well worth the read.

I listened to the audiobook version, and the narrator was very good. ( )

Lucky would not be the word I'd use. I know I have not read this book before, but so many parts of it seemed familiar. A lot of good twists in this one. ( )

This book was well written. And who doesn’t love a good damaged character? But I’ve got to be honest – this book annoyed the bejesus out of me.

I LOVED the opening. I identified with parts of the books (the flashbacks), quite strongly being rather close to the age/generation described. Parts felt overly autobiographical on the part of the author. But at one point, eyes rolling like a wild horse (and snorting just as hard), I thought, “Please let it be the author’s intention to be facetious.” The book only worked for me as a spoof.

Then ‘serious’ got even more ‘serious’, and I realized that there was no mockery intended. On that level, the book failed for me. Again, it was well written and not entirely predictable. It was entertaining. It wasn’t the Gone Girl-esque thriller it was hyped to be, but no surprise there. 4 stars. ( )

Was engaging, especially at the beginning but liked it less as I kept reading. The book is very focused on the past and I wish there was as much detail about Ani's life in the present, especially at the end. ( )
