This book is about rocks and minerals. It is made to be a second-grade reading level with kid-friendly language so it is accessible for kids. It teaches kids about a bunch of different types of rocks and minerals, and what makes each of those things special. I like this book because its informational with good information and is a great resource to use to teach kids how to read an informational text. I would use this book as a resource for kids (in my classroom library) and feature the book during lessons about the earth’s systems instead of using it for explicit instruction (one of my students LOVES this book.) *DISCLAIMER* Because this book is so thick and plentiful have to focus on a single section (Charlemagne)

This is a greatly written section of the book for the following reasons. First this book is very informational with its facts. For example, this section is about Charlemagne, but the author branches out into his history, crown, childhood, and his adulthood. Secondly, the author includes not just words, but other thing to fizz up the book. For example, when talking about the crown of Charlemagne the author includes pictures and timelines to help me understand. Lastly, the author includes his thoughts and preferences, this makes it so that it feels like reading and journal instead of a boring (facts) book. For example, when the author talks about how the crown he explains that he thinks part of it is fake, because over time the crown could of gotten damaged so they would need to replace a section.

Charlemagne:the Crown

This crown was not just a regular crown, it is very special to germane. This crown is in the Hapsburg Imperial Treasury. Charlemagne (the crown) is not only VERY expensive but it is a historical symbol. This story of how the crown was made dates back to about A.D. 400, King Charles makes his chapel. Many artifacts and item from all over the world is transported there. In 770 Charles the Great (the new owner of the chapel)dies. Otto I is now crowned the king, he now is the first to ever wear the crown of Charlemagne
