An entomologist seeks her missing sister, who disappeared in the midst of a top-secret government mission. There seems to be some kind of time-slippage happening... or possibly alternate realities.

This is beautifully written, and I loved how it was developing... but it ended abruptly, and felt a bit unsatisfying. ( )

The Insects of Love is a fantastic and lovely short story. I am still unsure what it truly means! Is it a story of sisterly love? Is it a story of loving something that is unusual? Or is it a story of magic? It was enthralling and beautifully written, but I was expecting an ending that... led to something. It didn't. But, that's not a bad thing. What made this a fantastic read was that I had the feeling from the beginning that it was a story I was going to have to use my imagination to connect the dots and come up with my own conclusion.

The synopsis says that there are several possible realities, but I felt there were probably several possible characters that were not real. I am still asking myself: "Does the title hold the meaning?" "Do the answers rely on the main character?" "Are the humans even real, or do the 'magical' properties of the insects provide what we are reading (are they telling the story)?" The Insects of Love definitely warrants a re-read... and probably many moments for a while truly wondering what I am even supposed to think about the story! Did I love it or am I just confused and stubborn to see the bigger picture.

If you are into mind-bending stories The Insects of Love is for you. ( )
