I won this book off this site for an early review. the plot was very good but the sexual issues were too soft porn for me. If someone likes that type of thing Im sure they would enjoy this book. wasnt really my type of book. ( )

I received this ebook free from the author through LibraryThing in exchange for an honest review. The action never quits. This book is full of suspense, danger, hot sex, and intrigue. I enjoyed this book and am anxious to read the next book in the series. ( )

Closer (The Unit) by Sarah Greyson turns out to be a thriller/romance novel. When I read the description, I was expecting more of a thriller. Not a soft-core porn romance novel.

The plot had the making to be a good thriller, but the romance part of the story ruined it for me. If you are looking for a story that has the makings of being a good thriller with a soft-core porn romance novel mixed in this is the books for you. ( )

Closer starts out with a good premise: Former Green Beret hired to kidnap a DoD scientist he believes is working for an Islamic terrorist group. Solid framework, but the filler is just ridiculous. I’ve seen PTSD, and it’s nothing like what Michael has; he’s just an over-controlling asshole whose soul and personality have been replaced by a black hole. Emma has a solid character basis but, like the plot, has an underdeveloped personality. So much more could have been done with her, and her every interaction with Michael has simply come about as an unfortunate and incredibly strong Stockholm Syndrome response resulting from her very brief sojourn as his captive.
Almost every situation is unrealistic and padded out with WAAAYYY too much unnecessary fluff and unimportant background detail. There’s clear potential for a better novel, albeit strictly as an unbelievable, unrealistic romance of the kind that Emma likes, were the personalities and plot better fleshed out, the more ludicrous aspects of “reality” toned down, and the fluff and filler chopped.
