This is a quick read, perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon or a short commute. It's a collection of stories from Sheridan's time working in a public library, and it's got a few solid gems in there. I found a couple of tales that made me chuckle, and some that left me scratching my head, wondering about the wild variety of folks who walk through a library's doors.

But while it's got its moments, it's not a laugh-out-loud kind of book. There are some amusing anecdotes, but it didn't have me wanting to turn to my husband and share any of them immediately. It's more of a gentle humor, a nod to the quirks and eccentricities of humanity.

One of the key themes that comes across in this book is the diversity of human experiences. The library, as Sheridan portrays it, is a crossroads of sorts, a place where people from all walks of life come together. It's a celebration of community, of shared spaces, and of the often surprising interactions that can occur in such settings.

Another theme is the importance of public libraries in our society. Through her stories, Sheridan highlights the role of libraries as not just repositories of books, but as vital community hubs that offer resources, support, and a sense of belonging to their patrons.

So while it's a fun peek into the life of a librarian, I know it won't stick with me. The book was enjoyable in the moment, but once I turned the last page, it already started to fade from memory.

All in all, I'd give it a solid 3 out of 5 stars. It's a nice little diversion, especially for those of us who love books and libraries. But if you're looking for a side-splitting comedy or a deeply impactful read, look elsewhere. Still, if you've got a bit of time to spare and fancy a glimpse into the world of public libraries, it's worth a look. ( )

For librarians and library lovers alike, you just can't make these stories up. ( )

Ok, I thought this collection of anecdotes from librarians was hilarious. Hilarious enough that I laughed out loud several times and tortured MT with more than a few of them.

I know a few readers thought some were having fun at someone else's expense, but honestly I didn't really pick up on that. The one chapter devoted to a single, named, person was included with that person's full knowledge and blessing, so I was ok with it (if she was, why not me?). That might say more about me than the book though, so ymmv.

It's a small little book, but it packs a lot of chuckles. ( )

Delightful and funny little read. It's kind of like reading someone's Twitter feed or a Tumblr exchange. But life is almost always stranger than fiction so it was fun to read through these. ( )

I was looking for more with this one, I've had funnier things happen to me working at the grocery store, toy store, mortgage company, etc. Basically, the stories within this book are slightly funny, but what would happen in any job where you service the public. I was hoping for different and unlikely. Not bad, but not outstanding. ( )
