These poems allow for children to see themselves and their feelings being represented in a positive way. It's relatable and engaging. Each page holds a picture of a child at work which further supports the image of enjoying work. ( )

The poems in the book, I Like Being Me, have very strong main ideas that reach the readers. They show a sense of urgency and courage throughout the whole book, making it easy for the reader to relate to them. I use the word courage because each poem shows a way that you can achieve what you are trying to accomplish by using the help of others, or even you by being the one to help someone else out. The first poem that stood out to me was called Mistakes Can Be Good. I thought this poem was very interesting because it shows children how important it is to realize that mistakes can help you grow as a person and may even end up showing you something new. This is important because I feel like children today think it is horrible to fail or get something wrong. Children need to realize that it is okay to make mistakes, because that can change you as a person and encourage you to do better. The photographs throughout this book were very descriptive. Each picture relates to what is occurring in the poem on that page. A second poem that really stood out to me was called Someone Else’s Chair. In this poem it talks about how you must imagine sitting in someone else’s chair to be able to learn about him or her and imagine what life may be like for them. You cannot judge someone when you don’t know what their life is like and what they have gone through. Poetry is important for children to read about because it can be passed along for decades and still portray the same meaning to whomever is reading it. ( )
