Less than six months ago my life was twisted and flipped on its side. Things have changed so much I barely recognize myself anymore. I am no longer an Enforcer. I am no longer a Witch. I no longer hate the Fae. (For the most part) And the sex-on-a-stick-gorgeous-Fae? He isn't really the Dark Prince. No, he is the father of my children and with the babies on the way, the land dying and the Mages closing in; alliances will have to be formed if we are all to make it through the war that is coming to our front door.Between warring Gods and Goddesses, how are any of us supposed to win?… (mere)

*slams figurative stack of books on the table because I read these in e-book form*
Alright, I read four of these puppies because I am a romance completionist. I read until I feel like the romance storyline is complete. I know that the person who reads erotica for plot is a bit of a dummy, but I am a dummy. I do not rate them highly because as a general rule I love enemies-to-lovers, but I hate emotionally constipated assholes, and that is what the MMC was for the majority of four books until maybe 20% into this one where he admits he loves her. I just feel like all of these books need at least two additional editorial passes, one for copyediting and one for content. Lots of typos. But my real beef is the constant retconning that is happening between books and even between chapters. Like, this is not a long-running comic book series, these are a series of erotic books, and the story just feels like one run-on unedited sentence. That being said the writer has good ideas that get dropped, like a lot. In the first book the protagonist is given traits like the fact that she is a good detective that never come up again. Her best friend Adam is her familiar, this is a plot thread that essentially gets dropped. It was clearly a setup for her to have a male friend, but then turned into a love triangle for no reason. Larissa's death is narratively dumb; she should have been the villain of book one. It is heavily implied for two books that Ryder is the Horde king, but he comes out and says he isn't, so when it is revealed he is it doesn't feel like a reveal so much as the writer changing her mind midstream. The internal lore gets weirder and dumber every single book, and actively contradicts established tropes for no reason. The protagonist is very passive for large chunks of the book, which is frustrating. She is one part macguffin, which is never a good idea because of this very problem, so everybody cares about protecting her and she rarely has to make decisions. I don't really understand what the antagonists want. I think it's genocide? This series is sustained on melodrama alone, these are soap opera style plots. The protagonist's parentage is a constantly changing plot point. The sex scenes are steamy, so there's that, but I don't really like Ryder for three books, so that was my main difficulty. ( )

This addictive series has turned Amelia Hutchins from a new-to-me author to one of my favourites and I am so glad to have found her. I love her writing style, the edge-of-your-seat pace she sets for her stories and the gripping plot lines that continually surprise me with their twists and turns. The characters that she has created for The Fae Chronicle – both protagonists and supporting cast alike – are complex, multifaceted beings that exhibit all the personality traits that I depend on to keep me interested.

While we’re on the subject of characters, if you’ve read any of my reviews before, you’ll know that I always enjoy a story more when the main female character is intelligent, resilient, resourceful, self-reliant and has plenty of gumption. Synthia (Syn) has all of these ingredients and also has the added cherry of a great sense of humour and a sarkiness that I love.

I loved that Seducing Destiny made me feel so many emotions; of course I blubbered like a baby ;-) but the tension in this story also had me holding my breath on the edge of my seat, the fighting got my adrenaline pumping and the sex scenes, wow, they were so hot and very erotic - the tingles were off the chart! What I loved about this book was that there are beautifully tender moments to balance the darkness that just warmed my old romantic heart.

While we're on the subject of darkness, I would just like to remind readers that some of the behaviour of the species in this book may cause offence or trigger emotions some readers would prefer to avoid. The Fae Kingdom is an antiquated world of arranged marriages, concubines, sex as food and violent brutality (both in the dungeons and bedrooms).

Seducing Destiny is a great read (with no perilous life-or-death cliffhanger – woohoo!!) which is why I rated it 5 stars. I already own the rest of the books in this series and I am keen to see how the remaining story threads are resolved and what will happens next for our heroic Syn.

Excellent

Seducing Destiny book 4 in the fae chronicles was just as enthralling as the previous 3. A lot of questions are answered and we see Ryder and syn develop more as a partnership, as usual loved it, the fire and passion between our two main characters is hypnotic, this series is just so addictive this is a second read for me, if you still enjoy it just as much second time around or even want to read it a second time the author must be doing a damn fine job in my opinion. Anyway amazing read you won't regret giving a go . ( )

I had to do a reread of the entire series since it had been so long since I had read the first book. I had forgotten how much I loved the world and story that Amelia Hutchins has created. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series as well as the new Elite Guard series she started. ( )
