With perfectly sparse text and beautiful, soft, watercolor-and-colored-pencil illustrations, Dubuc tells a simple story about a lion who cares for a wounded bird. The two become friends, but the bird’s migration means they can’t always be together.

The emphasis on gardening through the seasons echoes the motif of the ups, downs, and new beginnings of friendships. This is a beautiful, sweet book. ( )

Note: The blank pages are not a defect but part of the storytelling. The snow increases until all the animals can see is white.
One autumn day, a lion finds a wounded bird in his garden. With the departure of the bird's flock, the lion decides that it's up to him to care for the bird. He does and the two become fast friends. Nevertheless, the bird departs with his flock the following autumn. What will become of Lion and what will become of their friendship?

Lion who lives alone, rescues Bird, who is injured when he is supposed to fly away with his flock. The pictures tell the tale of friendship and the subsequent loss when someone has to leave. The beautiful illustrations carry this simple tale of friendship. ( )

He does, and the two become fast friends, spending all their time together. When spring comes, the bird's flock returns and he departs with them. The lion is left alone and lonely. This is a book about a lion who comes across an injured bird one day, and helps him heal. While the bird heals, the lion and the bird build a friendship. But eventually the bird gets better, and has to go back to his flock. The bird and the lion miss each other so much that the bird comes back to be with the lion.
