"In former delta force operator and New York Times bestseller Brad Taylor's latest Pike Logan thriller, the Taskforce must stop their most devastating threat yet-a weapon of mass destruction. The Taskforce is used to being the hunter, but this time they're the hunted. Intent on embroiling the US in a quagmire that will sap its economy and drain its legitimacy, Russia passes a potential weapon of mass destruction to Boco Haram, an extreme Islamic sect in Nigeria. A relic of the Cold War, the Russian FSB believes the weapon has deteriorated and is no longer effective, but they are wrong. Boco Haram has the means for mass destruction, which will be set loose upon a multitude of unsuspecting innocents on one of the world's grandest stages. Trying to solve the riddle of who might be stalking them, Pike Logan and the Taskforce have no idea what's been set in motion; but there's another secret from the Cold War buried in the Russian FSB, and exposing it will mean the difference between life and death-not only for Pike and his partner, Jennifer, but for perhaps millions more around the globe"--… (mere)

I accidentally ordered the wrong book from the library. Instead of "Days of Rage" by Bryan Burrough (see starting at :The Sixties -- what about 'em?>) I got "Days of Rage" by Brad Taylor.

I can't quite stop. Some action in Plodiv Bulgaria ferrchrissakes, with off the books Delta Force crap or whatever, though still working for the President and the DoD and CIA and NSA. Bits of right-wingish asides and making fun of some nanny-stateism and political correctness.

Anyway, not recommended, like some not quite fresh Cheetos or something, but I can't stop. ( )

Uneven. Sometimes it feels like Taylor has good ideas for stories but then has to figure out how to remove or work around the constraints that he's established for his protagonists. Sometimes it works, sometimes things feel forced. But I enjoyed the interplay with the allies that Taylor provided Logan in the story. ( )

I had an advanced reader copy of this one. And I just couldn't work up any emotion about this book, not rage, not excitement, not joy, not even hate. It was a bit plodding, very complex, and for all the complexity and high class of characters, all of whom seemed airmailed direct from Central Casting, I didn't care a single bit about any of the stuff going on.
I really tried, but the book beat me, in the end, and I fizzled out after two months and about half way through the story. And I'm not crushed that I'll never read the ending. ( )

This is my first exposure to Mr. Thor's writing and although this book belongs in his Pike Logan series, what I want to mention is the inclusion of two fierce, wonder-woman female characters. They are exposed to combat situations, put into dangerous armed scenarios and perform as equals. Would it not be terrific if in real world, real time, everyone would be assessed by their skills and abilities rather than their gender? The storyline is ultra contemporary, Russia taunting the US with an elderly nuke transported by a Nigerian Boko Haram member which will detonate automatically at the Brazilian World Cup (which has just ended yesterday in real time). A hush-hush US secret military team works in tandem with members of Mossad to thwart this plan. There is lots of violance and killing and bad guys on all sides including the head of the CIA, a Russian born but USA educated double agent. I enjoyed the read and look forward to exploring more of this author/s work. My thanks to the Penguin's First to Read program and the author for a complimentary copy. ( )
