this book is one of my favorite in the series so far. the green cloaks set out on a journey in search of the talisman of a polar bear in an ice city but the conquerors are not far behind . it seems someone on a their team is giving their secrets out to the conquerors, I like to call them the Devourer's puppets, on the journey Rolan met his mum but their reunion didn't last long. In summary I enjoyed this book so much even though at the end of it, something quite unexpected happened (don't wanna reveal too much). ( )

This is the 4th book in the Spirit Animals series, which is a multiplatform fantasy series for middle school readers. I recommend reading the books in order because it is difficult to read as a stand alone. The plot and the character development continue with each book. The main characters are back again and they are: Conor, Abeke, Meilin and Rollan. Each of them have a Spirit Animal. They are in search of the Crystal Polar Bear. The Conquerors continue to be the bad guys. They pick up a new member to their group, Maya and her spirit animal is a salamander. They are headed to a beautiful, icy world called Arctica. The journey is difficult and the main characters face many challenges. The story is a bit darker than the previous one, but readers will find humor in the dialogue.

Readers who enjoy fantasy adventure books, will probably continue to like the story. The struggle between good and evil will be apparent to readers. There is a lot of action, but the violence is not graphic and it will probably not scare younger readers. It is a good choice for fun reading in the upper elementary and middle school grades. The ending will leave you wanting to read the 5th book. I think this book might also introduce younger readers to Shannon Hale. It is formulaic, but that is to be expected in a series like this. Readers will probably look forward to logging in online to create their own Spirit Animal. I was not able to find any professional reviews of this 4th book. Only for the earlier books in this series.
