Nabeel Qureshi's book is a raw and honest look into finding out who God is. From Allah, to Jesus is a heart aching yet triumphant memoir. As someone who was a nihilist, from rejecting god and all meaning to life, to finding the resurrection of Jesus plausible, I can honestly relate to this autobiography. Great read! ( )

A very academic exploration of the differences between Islam and Christianity and the cases for the truth of each. But what makes it extremely readable is that the questions are investigated through Nabeel's life story. A good understanding (for non-Muslims) of his former Islamic beliefs comes through his childhood experiences, retold with obvious affection. Caveat: I do actually know a bit about Muslim beliefs and quite a bit about the Bible and Christian Theology, so things that seem simply presented to me, might be a bit harder for some others. But still I would highly recommend Nabeel's very approachable style. Unusually for me, I listened to the audiobook and Nabeel is clearly an extremely gifted speaker and I hung on every word. Two possible criticisms: In ch.7, Nabeel reveals that his family are Ahmadis, which not all believe are true Muslims. Nabeel defends this both in that chapter and in appendix 2 (written for a later edition of the book). Secondly, a number of scholars have contributed to the book (they have their say in appendix 1), which raises the question of how much of this is really Nabeel's life story and how much might have been added later to bulk up the apologetic content. Still, their contribution makes for a richer text.

The Foreword, Afterword, Reflection (by Nabeel's widow), and Conversation (with David Wood) from the third edition are all included in the audiobook, which expands the whole thing by about 90 minutes (about half of which is the Conversation). Nabeel Qureshi penned Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus to chronicle his life as a Muslim and his conversion to Christianity. In so doing he gave us a great key to better understanding Islam as well as a call to evaluate our own religious beliefs.

Mr. Qureshi spends the first several chapters chronicling his childhood and his parents’ efforts to raise an upstanding, committed Muslim son. This material isn’t all that exciting but important, and he keeps these chapters short and lively. He provides perspectives into Islam I had not expected, ways in in which his religious upbringing mirrors my own.

For me personally that’s one of the greatest contributions of this book: putting a human face to Islam. Not from someone half a world away fighting on behalf of some sect I only know about from the news but from a guy who had trouble fitting in as he grew up here in America with similar challenges to successfully living his faith. And Mr. Qureshi also describes accounts of challenging Christians, nominal and committed alike, in attempts to show the superiority of Islam over Christianity, and I hope this challenges every reader to know why he or she believes as they do.

I recommend this book to anyone wanting to understand Islam and/or Christianity better, how they are similar, and how they differ. I pray you don’t come away the same. ( )

This is an autobiographical account of how the author, Nabeel Qureshi, converted from Islam to Christianity. I find his life very interesting and his personality very likable. I already knew the author passed away from stomach cancer last year, but the more I read the book, the more I became really, really sad that he had passed away, because through reading the book I felt the author had become a friend in a way. I found his vlog and watched a couple of videos of the author's reflections on his battle with cancer, and I watched a couple of vlog done by his wife, after he died. The couple are both nice, intelligent, thoughtful people.

Anyways, back to the book. It's divided into five parts: 1. The author tells the readers about Islam and the Muslim community by describing the hiss childhood, religious practices, religious community, and how devout he was to Islam until he was 22-ish. This part was very interesting. I learned so many things I didn't know before! 2. The author's challenge to claims of Christianity -- specifically Jesus's death and resurrection, and Jesus's deity. After repeated discussion with a close Christian friend, and meeting with pastors, reading books, self-reflections...etc., the author came to the conclusion that the likelihood that Christianity is true is around 70%-80%. 3. The author began to examine claims of Islam -- specifically, Quoran is unchanged throughout history and perfect, and Muhammad is a great man of God. The author concluded no reliable historical sources exists to verify either claim. The sources that do exist, the earliest produced 100 years after Muhammad's death, don't paint Quoran or Muhammad in a positive light, unless you pick and choose passages from the sources and discredit the unfavorable passages. 4. At this point the author felt rational analysis could only do so much. He can't be completely certain whether Islam, or Christianity, is true or not. He prayed to God to reveal the truth to him through visions and dreams. And God did gave him that -- one vision and three dreams, all pointing to Christianity. 5. The author still didn't want to convert, because the price to pay was so high. He was extremely distressed. He read the Quoran but was not comforted by the words. He started to read the Bible's Book of Matthew from beginning to end for the first time, and he couldn't put it down. God's words ministered to his heart. He still didn't want to convert, though. After struggling for another week or so he told his Christian friend he believed. His parents were very upset about it. The author prayed to God in distress, saying he wished he had died the moment he converted so to avoid bringing grief to his parents. Then he felt God spoke to him, a voice vibrated through his inner being saying "It's not about you." From that moment on he no longer felt distress, instead he began to see how much people need the gospel.

I think this autobiography is very interesting to read, given the different twists and turns of his conversion process, the intellectual reflections, and the vivid and loving description of the author's Muslim community. (You can tell the author loves and respects his Muslim community, even though this book is essentially about his rejection of Islam.) Very glad I read it. ( )
