For Alex Carter, everything is going according to plan, she's built a successful career and has a steady boyfriend, until life decides to throw a wrench in the mix. Suddenly, her company threatens to downsize and her boyfriend ends their relations. It is then that she realizes that, like many women, she has neglected to pursue love and family, the goals closest to her heart, in favor of a career. As a enw year begins and Alex decides to focus on personal concerns, she runs into an old flame, Nathan Chestnut. Though she once had it bad for Nathan, she's careful about trusting him again. Alex's remedy is to ask him for an unexpected favor, which seems like the perfect resolution to her broken belief in happiness until she realizes that it can only grant her a piece of her dreams.… (mere)

I usually stay away from contemporary romances but something about this one caught my eye so I found myself agreeing to part of the blog tour. I’m glad I did. This was a cute story about a woman becoming comfortable with who she is and realizing that she does not need to accept less then she deserves, especially when it comes to men! The story flowed well and was a quick read. I liked the main character, Alex, although I did find myself wanting to yell at her a couple of times when it came to her dealings with Nathan. My one complaint with the story is that the ending was tied together a little too neatly and happened a little too quickly. I think the end of the story would have been better if it had been just a bit longer.

I would recommend The Cost of Love & Sanity to fans of contemporary romance or anyone in the mood for a light read. ( )

I'm not usually a fan of contemporary romance/urban fiction but I decided to give this book a try because Jaye Cherie is a new author and, well, I always want to support new authors...

If you've ever been through relationship drama, second guessed business decisions, or wanted to give your mother the side eye {from behind closed doors, of course} then you'll find something in this book that you can identify with.

Alex is in her mid~thirties and has spent most of her adult life focused on her career, to the detriment of her relationships. As a result of changes at work and her ticking biological clock, Alex starts rethinking her life choices, to the point where she rekindles a relationship with an ex. eye roll He's an ex for a reason, lady!

And that's how I spent most of the book, internally yelling at Alex because of some of her decisions/reactions. All she had to do was ask some questions, quit jumping to conclusions, and breathe. The sad part is, I think just about every woman has been there on some level...

If you're looking for a quick and easy read, this is it. Just beware that you'll find yourself revisiting some scenes and questioning the emotional maturity of the leading character.

This book is for fans of contemporary urban novels or someone who's looking for an easy summer read. ( )
