The peopling of our world I was able to read this book rather quickly and found it quite interesting although the author tended to repeat his arguments from section to section. Fagan was trying to bring together all the arguments for both the 'Candelabra' and the 'Noah's Ark' hypotheses of how ancient forms of homo erectus became homo sapiens sapiens over the entire inhabited area of the earth. He is clearly in favor of the version where homo sapiens sapiens developed in Africa and then spread outward over the last 100 thousand years, finally reaching the Americas about 15,000 years ago. The copyright date is 1990 and he includes all major findings in genetics and paleoarchaeology up to the time of his writing. Particularly interesting to me was the way in which many of his arguments supported some of those made by Joseph Campbell in [Primitive Mythology] which was written decades previously. (There were some areas of disagreement but not as many as I had expected. Apparently many of the best finds had been made and reported prior to Campbell's revision of his work.) I think that I would recommend this book to those with a casual interest in the subject and some general knowledge of early man. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
