Johnny Appleseed is an appealing and entertaining story due to the beautiful pictures shown throughout. Rhymed text and good illustrations are key factors leading readers into making the life of John Chapman more relatable. John Chapman, who is also known as Johnny Appleseed is a legend who distributed apple seeds across the midwest and explaining his journey in a engaging way that is relatable to young children. This story is very well known and a great book to use as a read aloud for young readers or in the classroom library for more developed readers. I have heard many different versions of this folktale. Although they are all very well written, I would choose this book over all of them. The poem of Johnny Appleseed portrays Johnny Appleseed as a gentle man whose mission is to plant apple seeds, instead of a hero among everyone. This book would be perfect for early to middle elementary and can be used to teach about folktales, history and poetry. I loved the rustic feel and how the pages were painted to mock a hand stitched quilt. This little poem book was a wonderful, simple read. Summary; This is a classic poem about the young boy, Johnny Appleseed, who traveled the United States with nothing but apple seeds and a bible. He planted seeds which grew apple trees all over the nation with the help of God's sun and rain. Personal Reaction; Loved as a children getting to read this in the fall and I enjoyed the illustrations of how this book went into more detail about this fun folk tale. Classroom Extension Ideas; 1. Have students describe what they would plant if they were Johnny Appleseed. 2. Have students color their own apple and the entire class would have their apples put on a paper tree in the classroom. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
